The objective of this workshop is to learn how to analyze news about social protest from a multidisciplinary perspective. The analysis is based on three fields. On the one hand, we will review the field of Discourse Analysis, which focuses on the structures and strategies used in journalistic texts. On the other hand, we will look at studies on the production of news to observe the main values and habits used in news about social protest. And finally, we will review news cognition to examine the types of social representations that are usually generated in journalistic texts about social protests.

The workshop consists of 10 hours of class, divided into 5 sessions. It is possible to take the entire workshop or two-hour sessions. The price of an individual session is 20€. To register for an individual session rather than the entire workshop please contact us at centre@discoursestudies.org.

The course will be given by Dr. César Rojo, of the Centre of Discourse Studies. Workshop participants will have direct access to the lecture online to be delivered by Dr. Christopher Hart on March 18th, on the representation of social protests in media discourse.
