Workshop description:

This text analysis workshop aims to put into practice the knowledge acquired in the winter course on discourse analysis. Different types of text (news, advertisements, political campaigns, songs, stories, etc.) are analyzed using different textual structures and strategies: lexis, sentence types, superstructure, semantic roles, types of process or action, speech acts, modalization, rhetorical and argumentative resources, narrative structures, etc.

The workshop is useful for learning how to choose the most appropriate textual analysis, according to the research objectives and the corpus of study in a discourse analysis project.

The workshop will be led by César Colorado, professor-researcher of the Centre of Discourse Studies.

Program:

Session 1. May 31st (Saturday), 16:00 to 18:00 (CEST time zone): Propositional analysis: types of arguments (agent, patient, beneficiary, etc.) and predicates (types of process: verbal, material, mental, etc.).

Session 2: June 7th (Saturday), 16:00 to 18:00 (CEST time zone): Propositional analysis of implicatures (presupposition and implicatures): the importance of knowledge and the communicative situation.
