ABOUT THE MINI-COURSE

When we decide to do discursive research, paying attention to how discourse works in social dynamics, we soon realize that there are multiple prisms through which we can look. After deep ontological and epistemological reflection, we move on to the methodological stage, in which we verify the methods and instruments most consistent with our previous decisions. If we choose an interview, for example, we ask ourselves: how can I start and develop it? A good recommendation is to start by showing a photo to the participant, to help break the initial ice and develop the conversation. We call the use of photographs in interviews photo-elicitation. In this mini-course we will focus on this research practice.

This mini-course is intended for anyone interested in conducting discursive, or ethnographic-discursive research, and who plans to use interviews as a method of data generation. The content of the course includes a brief theoretical review of the literature followed by examples of the use of photo-elicitation in discursive research.
