About this course

The purpose of this course is to offer an overview of the main theories, methodologies, analytical categories, and lines of research that exist in Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA).
This course provides a summary of the main study topics that have been investigated thus far through CDA as well as those requiring further research with greater rigor and systematicity. In this course, w
e will also be putting some of the analytical categories used in CDA into practice with textual samples.

Program:
 

First session

Friday, October 9th/ 2 hours/ 4:00PM (CET) 

The emergence of CDA: social and academic background.

 

Main theoretical references: textual linguistics, the development of pragmatics, cognitive studies, and the discourse-historical perspective.

Second session

Saturday, October 10th/ 2 hours/ 4:00PM (CET) 

Quantitative and qualitative analysis: divergences and synergies.

 

Social problems and CDA: racism, discrimination, sexism, and other abuses of power.

 

New study perspectives: resistance discourses.
