ANÁLISIS DEL DISCURSO (2).png

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The winter course in Discourse Analysis is an introduction to general discourse theory. On the one hand, it presents the most representative research background that led to the text as a unit of analysis within linguistics and grammar. On the other hand, the course focuses on the textual dimension of discourse; several linguistic levels are taken into account, but it focuses especially on the microstructure and macrostructure of the text at the syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic levels. These levels are fundamental for explaining the typology of a text, its meaning, and the function of discourse in the communicative and social context. Discourse is not only composed of a textual dimension; other aspects such as cognitive, social, historical, and multimodal contexts are also important. The course also addresses these dimensions as a complement to explaining discourse.

The course is aimed at students or researchers who want to learn about general discourse theory and its applications at the analytical level. For those who are already familiar with the field, the course provides recent information on new studies and literature on various discourse analyses.

The course will be given by Dr. César Rojoresearcher and professor at the Centre of Discourse Studies.

The course consists of 21 hours of class. The dynamics of the course are theoretical and dialectical (in class there will be time for participants to discuss the topics presented). Some previous readings will be recommended.
