COURSE DESCRIPTION:
What is discourse? What is Discourse Analysis for? How can it help us to conduct research in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities?
The aim of this course is to answer these questions. Currently, Discourse Studies is a very useful multidisciplinary research tool not only in the field of the study of language, but also to study social phenomena such as abuse of power, ideologies, social protest, injustice or solidarity.
The course is aimed at students or researchers who want to learn about general discourse theory and its applications at the analytical level. For those who are already familiar with the field, the course provides recent information on new studies and literature on various discourse analyses.
The course will be given by Dr. César Rojo, researcher and professor at the Centre of Discourse Studies.
The course consists of 21 hours of class. The dynamics of the course are theoretical and dialectical (in class there will be time for participants to discuss the topics presented). Some previous readings will be recommended.
