Course description:
 

The objective of this specialized course is to explore some key concepts in Cognitive Discourse Processing and Cognitive Discourse Analysis, which are useful for Critical Discourse Analysis. This is an introductory course designed for students and researchers in the broader field of Discourse Studies, as well as in the fields of Communication Studies, Interpretive Sociology, Cognitive Psychology, and Social Psychology.

The course will be taught by César Colorado Ruiz, researcher and professor at the Centre of Discourse Studies.

Program: 

Session 1. July 4th (Saturday), 16:00 to 18:00 (CEST time zone): What is memory? What is a memory? How do we remember? Types of memory. The role of semantic memory and episodic memory. The concept of reconstruction.

Session 2: July 11th (Saturday), 16:00 to 18:00 (CEST time zone):  What is the discourse you have read or heard—or are going to write—about? The theory of mental models.

Session 3: July 18th (Saturday), 16:00 to 18:00 (CEST time zone): Discourse processing: micro- and macro-structures of text. The concept of strategy and the concept of emergent properties or networked functioning.

Session 4: July 25th (Saturday), 16:00 to 18:00 (CEST time zone): How are ideas and opinions formed? The role of knowledge and ideologies in the production and interpretation of discourse.
